Uniform
Our philosophy
Our school uniform sets a positive tone and it is a visual reminder of personal discipline, independence, good order, and the school’s high standards and expectations.
We believe school uniform fosters a sense of belonging and pride, and promotes equality between pupils. It also suggests that all children have the same possibilities and potential, promoting confidence and self-belief.
We pride ourselves on our 'Look Smart, Think Smart' philosophy and really appreciate families' support in instilling this ethos in their children.

Our uniform
Our uniform is based on plain navy and berry colours and consist of a traditional blazer, jumper or cardigan, schoolbag and tie.
From September 2026, government guidance limits compulsory branded items to three, in addition to the school tie and PE top.
At Rutherford House School, all mandatory items of clothing are:
- Blazer
- Jumper/cardigan
- Backpack/bookbag
- Tie
- PE top
Non-branded uniform can be purchased from a retailer of your choice, provided it meets our uniform requirements.
Nail varnish, coloured hair, hair ornaments or make up are not permitted. Jewellery - such as rings, necklaces and bracelets - should not be worn. If your child has pierced ears, please use small, smooth studs or small sleeper type earrings. We request this in the interest of your child’s safety as accidents can occur during sports and other activities.
Pupils are permitted to wear religious head wear in school colours.
